To the stars without fuel!
The dream of the stars is constantly delayed. Chemistry — through the efforts of Zehnder, Queen, Raspberry, von Braun — who brought us for the atmosphere and to other planets, alas, than that. To reach even the nearest to us is Proxima Centauri — a red dwarf beggar! it takes time and the fuel volume is not fantastic, but making a pointless expedition. Other technologies that may compete with the chemical engine, does not yet exist. Or, to be precise, did not exist until last week, when none other than NASA, published a report, studies documented experiments with unique rocket motor that is able to lead man to the stars… without fuel. The trouble with this engine one: the overwhelming majority of physicists he admits unscientific.
Imagine the usual “microwave” unusual design: instead of the usual “brick”, let it be made in the form of a horn. The shielding mesh from the walls to tear off is not necessary, beyond such a “stove”, as before, the microwave radiation to leak. Now turn the power on and send the device beyond the atmosphere and earth’s gravitation. What will happen?

Classical physics States that to create a movement, from something to be repelled, let alone what it will be — a minor matter: could be the feet and the ground can be a screw and the water or atmosphere, can be burnt or atoms are ionized gas (ion engine, let low-power, already used in space, think Deep Space 1 ). NASA is not the author of the idea of the “electromagnetic engine.” Her “father” is a British engineer Roger Schaer, who constructs the prototypes of the first year and even knocked on his EmDrive state grant (helped, probably, that he does not insist that the laws of physics is incorrect, he argues that the wrong of physics themselves). Looking at him, with the support of the state are similar to the experiments of Chinese researchers. July 28, on the official NASA page was published. and a couple days later at the conference on reactive movement sounded, a report of a group of employees called the NASA “Anomalous thrust from the radio-wave test device measured on a sensitive pendulum”. In full. unfortunately, it’s only available for money, but the synopsis is mentioned on the website, and fill in the gaps the Western scientific journalists who read or heard the whole report. The bottom line: hanging “microwave” on sensitive scales and enabled the testers recorded coming out of nowhere cravings — though weaker than in British and Chinese experiments, but still noticeable. Apparently, in order not to be fired immediately, the report’s authors paid attention to the cause of thrust (on this account already made at least two theories, both somehow related to quantum mechanics), focusing on the description of the engine and measurement process. And all this happened exactly last summer, and now, finally, the test results are made public.
If you have already heard about the NASA report, it is, of course, you know, what’s the catch. The Americans “weighed” “the stove,” not only on, but off (they called this “null device”). For what? For the purity of the experience, of course: if and in this experiment, appears pull, it will be clear that the reason lies not in “the unknown physical properties of the closed chamber with microwave radiation”. And in fact, even turned off the EM engine has shown some traction. And many journalists were quick to declare this a Testament to the failure of the EM-drive: they say, as expected, the electromagnetic motor is no pulse does not generate the errors. But journalists were wrong.
The fact that even off uh drive was deflected arrow weights, says only that the measurement procedure were not taken into account all the factors. Can’t believe Shaer. You can not trust the Chinese. But NASA is not self-taught, not a lover, not a master of cloning others ‘ decisions. So there is something understand how and what can and should be measured. The error, of course, not possible here. In the end, the same NASA recently studied anti-gravity. But now, finally, the idea of a GM engine will recheck other senior researchers (the authors of the report and call, in parallel going to do it yourself) and will probably put experiments in space. After all, the main argument of opponents of such an engine (not considering the contradictions with physics) is in interaction with the suspension: in this zero gravity, they say, no thrust will not.
So what are we facing? With confusion, a mistake? Possible. But the third confirmation and credibility of the test suggests, not an error — the hole in the understanding of physics. And is a breakthrough in the exploration of outer space. No, of course, this engine can be used to build flying cars, but those, in the end, can be constructed in other ways.
But in the space EM-engine irreplaceable. Will be easier and cheaper to adjust the orbit of satellites and space stations. Even flights within the Solar system will be much faster: for the same Mars can be reached within a few weeks. And finally we’ll fly to the stars. With acceptable acceleration for the acceleration and braking of road will probably take years. But the good news is that such calculations can be seriously addressed.
PS (augmented 8.08.2014) Surfaced details of experiments — and it was even more interesting. “Null device” in NASA is not called off, as was previously thought, and experimental modification of the EM-drive with a special structure of the walls. So pull in the experience with “zero-device” only shows that scientists still don’t understand what causes cravings.
